Former Minnesota Sen. Paul Wellstone’s sons are being pushed out of the marketing campaign group devoted to their father’s legacy.
Wellstone Motion advised Mark and David Wellstone on Wednesday they will be voted off its governing board within the coming days.
The group’s leaders say the transfer follows months of pressure because the brothers have pushed to make Wellstone Motion extra vocal in liberal politics. It presently focuses on coaching liberal-minded candidates for races starting from faculty boards to legislatures to Congress.
Wellstone’s sons co-based the group after the 2002 aircraft crash that killed Wellstone, his spouse and daughter. The group has educated hundreds of candidates and marketing campaign managers.
Co-founder and board chair Jeff Blodgett says it was a tragic however crucial step. David Wellstone did not instantly reply to requests for remark.
