High school basketball star killed after defending sister from abuse, cops say


It was Friday, Feb. 9 when police say Jalen Merriweather, an 18-yr-previous highschool basketball star in Tuscaloosa, listened as his sister argued together with her ex-boyfriend in an house.

The argument received worse and worse. Then it turned violent.

All of the sudden, police say Donald Robertson pulled a gun and pistol-whipped Jalen’s sister throughout the face with it. Then police say he began capturing.

“She was screaming and he was chasing her round this huge rubbish can within the parking zone, in circles, and he was firing the gun,” Jalen’s mom Angela Merriweather told the Tuscaloosa News. “They stated he had her in a headlock and hit her with the gun, like he was going to kill her. Jalen got here out, he pointed the gun at him and she or he broke unfastened and ran.”

Jalen went ran upstairs to placed on garments, then got here again to seek out Robertson threatening to shoot each his older sister and his 15-yr-previous niece, Jalen’s mom advised the paper.

He stepped in entrance of them – and was shot within the chest. He died shortly after in an house bed room.

Now forty eight-yr-previous Donald Kenneth Robertson is charged with homicide, tried homicide and theft in Jalen’s dying, and stays on the run.
