Athletes dig for gold in the water at regional Special Olympics swim meet


FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — A few of the Central Valley’s toughest athletes dug for gold within the water Saturday.

The Hoover Excessive Faculty pool crammed up with about one hundred fifty athletes from 5 counties competing in the regional Particular Olympics meet.

Swimmers came from Fresno, Tulare, Madera, Tuolumne and Stanislaus County to take their places on the rostrum and to earn spots in the state championships.

But the payoff is available in more than simply medals.

“These kind of events are so awesome to see, to see the grins on the athletes’ faces, to see them getting their awards, the gold medals, the silvers, the bronze, the workforce spirit they’ve,” stated Michael Preciado. “You recognize, it does come right down to the gold medals and stuff, but the friendships they build and seeing them excessive five one another from totally different counties is what makes this really special.”

The meet started with a torch run by athletes from each of the 5 counties.
