FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) —
The Fresno Chaffee Zoo is residence to over 800 animals and what chances are you’ll not know is that there’s solely a handful of people to care for all those creatures.
Dr. Michael Wenninger is one among two veterinarians for the zoo, they’ve three other associates on employees.
“All the things that folks would do for his or her pets, like their canine and their cats, we do to a unique scale for our animals here on the zoo,” shelp Wenninger.
Each day they make the rounds to examine on each animal. Typically they carry the animals to physician sort workplace situated behind the zoo.
This previous summer time Wenninger and employees observed a harbor seal named “Jetta” had a problem together with her eyes, the problem, bilateral cataracts.
“And it was impairing her model. So we made the selection to call in a specialist, an ophthalmologist and an anesthesiologist for marine mammals. And we flew them in,” stated Wenninger.
That group flew in from the southeast of the country last month. Since an anesthesiologist was here they performed another surgery that very same day.
“Kiki” the lion was spayed. The surgical procedure was crucial because “Kiki” was beginning to show indicators of arthritis in her hips.
“Kiki is a 14 yr previous feminine lion and due to her age she shouldn’t be really helpful for breeding and so we will been doing contraceptives implants for her. That is primarily contraception for lions,” he stated.
“Kiki” has already given start to some cubs and she or he is now doing nicely, enjoying the sunshine on the zoo’s African Safari.
And “Jetta” the harbor seal is swimming again within the waters of Sea Lion Cove.
