Kershaw unlikely to be ready for Opening Day

Dodgers supervisor Dave Roberts acknowledged Friday that left-hander Clayton Kershaw is unlikely to be ready for Opening Day.

Kershaw has been slowed by shoulder inflammation this spring and has but to pitch in an official Cactus League recreation.

Roberts on Friday refused to formally rule him out for the opener, but for the primary time this spring, he admitted that there’s a robust risk that his longtime ace will not be ready to face Arizona come March 28.

“It is unlikely,” Roberts stated. “Unlikely is truthful. But I don’t need to shut the door, however it’s more, clearly, if you take a look at the calendar, it’s more unlikely.”

Kershaw has thrown two bullpen periods, together with a 31-pitch one to Russell Martin on Thursday. He has been restricted to throwing only fastballs thus far, staying away from something off-velocity, which are his best pitches. The veteran lefty is scheduled to throw a 3rd bullpen Monday.

Kershaw has made a Dodgers-report eight straight Opening Day begins. Requested earlier this week if making a ninth straight mattered to him, he stated, “Sure and no.”

Yes, as a result of he want to maintain his streak lively. No, as a result of he understands the importance of avoiding further setbacks.

Kershaw turns 31 subsequent week.
