Traveler caught smuggling 70 live birds hidden in hair rollers into US

NEW YORK CITY (KRON) – A traveler was caught making an attempt to smuggle 70 stay birds in a carry-on bag via John F. Kennedy International Airport on Saturday. 

In line with U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials, the unidentified passenger, who flew in from Georgetown, Guyana, was caught with 70 reside finches discovered inside hair rollers in a black duffel bag. 

The birds have been taken into custody, detained underneath quarantine, and turned over to the U.S. Department of Veterinary Providers. 

“CBP Agriculture Specialists are the primary line of protection to stop the introduction of animal illnesses that have the potential to cause vital injury to the Nation’s agricultural financial system,” stated Troy Miller, Director, Area Operations, New York Area Workplace, in a press release.

Officers noted the 2015 outbreak of hen flu which resulted in $850 million in damages.
